Project-Based Manufacturers to Benefit from Acquisition of Encompix ERP Software by Made2Manage

On Monday, March 13, 2006, Indianapolis-based Made2Manage Systems, Inc. completed its acquisition of Encompix, Inc. The acquisition was Made2Manage Systems’ fifth during the past 20 months. When one software company acquires or merges with another, there are primarily three assets involved, the product(s), the customer base, and the employees. In the past many of these acquisitions involved product consolidation, massive layoffs, and customers left with an obsolete product with little hope of any major investment. The acquisition of Encompix by Made2Manage provides opportunities for the ETO ERP customer. Chuck Stewart, one of original co-founders, explained the benefits in a recent interview.

Q. Will the Encompix product continue to be enhanced?
A.: “Absolutely. We are planning to release Version 9.40 (v9.40) this fall, and the next release is currently scheduled for 2007. This release, v9.50, will add new functionality on the current platform. Steve Bailey, our chief technology officer, has been working closely with Eric Binning, Encompix product manager and Mary Jo Haynes, Encompix lead architect, to begin to formulate the new technology direction. One of Made2Manage Systems’ primary goals throughout the integration process is to help us with our technology plan going forward.”

Q. Will Encompix still continue to focus on ETO and project-based companies?
A. “Definitely. The reason we were attractive to Made2Manage Systems was our strict focus on the ETO market. This is the same reason our customers license our application. There are no plans to change this focus. In fact, we plan to go deeper into our market, adding new capabilities to help project-based manufacturers. We believe this is the best strategy for Encompix to continue to win the high number of new system sales that we have achieved over the past several years.”

Q. Will Encompix remain in Cincinnati?
A. “We will remain in Cincinnati. We have just signed a new lease for our office building.”

Q. What about support for existing customers?
A. “The Encompix support team will remain in Cincinnati. The same channels our customers have used to report problems still apply and the same people are providing that support. Not only will customers be receiving the same support as they do today, but Made2Manage Systems has plans in place to offer additional services to Encompix customers. For example, we are adding additional resources in the form of a customer account manager. This person’s role will be to build a relationship with every one of our customers to help them make the best use of the application in areas where perhaps the Encompix software is not completely implemented.

Encompix (www.encompix.com) a business unit of Made2Manage Systems, has filled the manufacturing software requirements of engineer-to-order companies since 1992. The company name reflects a commitment to developing business application solutions that encompass the complex areas of project-based and job-based manufacturing. Encompix provides ETO manufacturers with a competitive advantage by improving bottom line results.

How much can an architect make?

I understand that the question is rather general, but I felt it may be somewhat sufficient for a subject. Half of the questions asked regarding architecture have been a bit naive or just flat out ridiculous. I love architecture, granted at times it does get a bit upsetting when hearing of the stress, endless hours of work, lack of recognition and horrible pay, but I’ve heard the end result along with the final product makes it worth while.

My question is how much can an individual pursuing a career in architecture make? I’m currently at a University studying architecture in my undergrad. I’ve been around the block, and have understood that my program is not professional, and in order to get a job I must complete the masters program in architecture. In the time being I have also enrolled in a college for architectural technician diploma program, and have been doing some CAD certifications.

What is the difference, in job description and salary, for an architect, CAD technician, architectural technician and architectural technologist?

I’m looking at every avenue to further my knowledge and experience to be able to be successful once I am out of school. With regards to my academic pursuits, I wish to complete my Hon. B.A at my university, move onto Masters of Architecture, complete my diploma in either Architectural technician/technology (one is 2 years the other is 3 years) and complete some CAD certifications (AutoCAD, Revit, etc). I’m hoping to pursue a career in architecture, but one with regards to sustainable design, green building, etc.

Just curious to know what to expect.

what steps would i need to take to pursue a masters in architecture after completing a B.S. in civil engineer?

i’m currently finishing up my junior year at UCF studying civil engineering and i’m trying to get information on this path of education. from my understanding its not too unusual to do this. what entry tests do i need to worry about? where could i find resources to develop a portfolio? what drafting/design courses would i need to worry about? is there anyone who has any knowledge of how peoples careers turned out by doing this? what doors does it open? close? is 3d modeling big in architecture school now?

iv had around 5 years of experience working with programs like autocad and 3ds max and im well versed on all the technicalities of 3d modeling software. iv meddled with drawing. i also do photography as well as done music production for 3 years as a serious hobby. (my experience with these were with the objective of being creative and expressive). i feel like i have a deep and true understanding/sense of style and art and that’s just one reason as to why im pursuing architecture (there’s many more but ill leave them out).

Also dont worry about telling me about finances. i know the prices of everything, the salaries, and the job market of both a civil engineer and an architect and their roles. im more looking for guidance. thank you!
almost forgot to mention that UCF doesn’t have an architecture program.

What career should I choose?

I’ve been having trouble on choosing what career to study. I first wanted to get into Architectural Drafting because I really like the idea of making houses and I like computers. But I also Like the idea of being a Radiologic Technologist. I’ve already told different things on what I want to be. I told my family I will get RT months after telling my mom and dad that I want Architectural Drafting. Now I don’t know what to do. I know I don’t need to do what they want me to do but what career should I choose? I want something that pays well enough to support a family one day without struggling to pay everything off. What career will pay best and in the long run which will be better, Financially and in job enjoyment? Please Help me someone.
Only like Architechtural Drafting and Radiologic Technologist so what one would be the best?
